Observations
Similar to my previous safari experience at Duba Plains, where finding lions was as difficult as discovering a modest influencer, the Sabi Sands reserve is reputed for being abundant with leopards.
Nevertheless, despite this challenging game of hide-and-seek amongst the leopards, other wildlife was abundant, and each exhilarating drive provided me with unforgettable sightings of their fascinating behavior in their natural habitat.
I hired a private guide who barely tolerated my company, joining the ranks of esteemed companions such as my parents, kids, and wife.
I prefer to hire a private guide because it allows me to indulge in my morbid fascination with nature’s harsh realities; unfortunately, on this occasion luck was not on my side and all animals had turned vegetarian.
However last time around fortune smiled upon me when wild dogs brought down an impala while battling off a hyena – now that was something!
location
Located in the Sabi Sand Reserve of South Africa, Singita Ebony Lodge is a charming retreat enveloped by aged trees and positioned adjacent to the Sand River.
During certain periods, this river appears more like a sandy basin interspersed with occasional appearances from hippos.
Let’s talk about Waterside once again, but this time we’re focusing on Singita. To give you an overview, Singita Ebony is located in Sabi Sands and offers vast private land spanning across 45,000 acres. Some refer to it as Singita Sabi Sands because just a short walk away lies the equally stunning Singita Boulders.
Kruger houses Lebombo and Sweni, offering similar services, gourmet food, and animal sightings. However, accommodations and amenities vary, reminiscent of Marvel movies with different visual effects.
Enjoy a VIP wildlife experience on our private land without the inconvenience of safari traffic or other lodges disturbing your peace.
The only guests permitted are from Londolozi, made possible by an agreeable vehicle exchange policy.
One remarkable moment during my visit was encountering a relaxed leopard with her cubs – it’s hard to surpass this unless you’ve been indulging in David Attenborough documentaries for hours!
Facilities
Regarding the major renovation they repeatedly talked about – it appears my memory has dulled with time.
Fortunately, I possess old photographs that enable me to notice the disparities. The enhancements made to the sleeping quarters were inconspicuous; however, they extensively revamped communal spaces such as the bar and dining area.
Preserving its colonial ambiance was an intelligent decision in my opinion because it maintains its allure while revitalizing essential components of infrastructure.
Furthermore, opting for lighter hues contributed greatly towards illuminating and enhancing overall aesthetics within these areas.
As you enter, the living area with its adjacent bar catches your attention; yet, what truly sets this lodge apart is how it skillfully lures you to its periphery.
Abundant outdoor areas offer sweeping views of the river from every angle while a central firepit extends towards the water and multiple dining tables flank on either side.
As for indoor amenities: cozy up by our fireplace in the charming dining room on cooler evenings or check out Singita’s preservation efforts displayed in an adjoining conservation room.
For wine connoisseurs, we proudly present an impressive wine cellar complete with a perfectly paired dining table, and below that lies a small games haven just waiting to be discovered.
Nonetheless, having internet access readily available is an absolute blessing for me – being a solo millennial traveler means that skipping a meal without keeping up with football scores seems almost like an offense.
In the same building, you can find a gym equipped with modern TechnoGym gear such as cable machines and pull-up stations comprising of five pieces.
Moreover, there are two bikes, and treadmills each along with an elliptical and rower for your exercise needs.
Additionally , the spa which has two treatment rooms is located close to the gym although some may consider it oddly placed.
Room
Singita Ebony offers only 12 suites, comprised of six river-facing accommodations and two bush suites.
Additionally, there are a limited number of family-focused units that can be combined to form an expansive villa suitable for hosting up to four adults and four children.
That concludes what I have to offer. Appreciate your attention and have a good night.
The Singita Ebony lodge accommodations have retained their charm and comfort through the years with an intentional design that exudes a genuine, rural feel.
The rustic aesthetic is well-executed without seeming contrived or excessive – I was quite impressed despite not typically favoring such styles.
African artwork displays throughout reinforce the property’s overall theme and left nothing to be desired in terms of decor.
Additionally, mounted on the walls is an air conditioning unit that instantly enhanced the room’s attractiveness by 9,000%.
The bedroom-bathroom partition seems somewhat unimpressive since it’s merely a curtain, and the water pressure is disappointingly feeble.
Service and cuisine
The service provided was incredibly hospitable, polite, and inviting.
The staff kindly provided non-alcoholic beverages during the trip, despite the unpleasant taste. The guide, Dan, managed the lodge exceptionally well, earning recognition for his exceptional work.
Luckily, the conventional safari approach of “consume all and stay still” is transforming for the better.
Noshing on snacks in the morning has become customary, with two restocks to refresh your choices throughout the day.
Brunch (a fusion of breakfast and lunch) provides an assortment of options- four staples every day alongside a rotating selection that varies daily.
The latest menus are more weightless which I wholeheartedly endorse.
Though food quality ranged from superior to adequate overall, Waterside’s offerings outshone them all significantly.
The quality at Waterside Lodge surpasses Singita Ebony lodge thus offering but their private land holds immeasurable value. Although not quite as powerful as before, Singita Ebony still impresses greatly.
Being able to observe animals in peace is truly amazing; we spent over an hour calmly observing a cheetah doing practically nothing!
Conclusion
With no cellular connection or disruptions around us in Singita Ebony lodge, it was wonderful experiencing nature exactly how it ought to be – seated comfortably in a vehicle with heated seats along with enough food inventory for the duration of any pandemic outbreak and ample camera equipment that can record even professional sports events flawlessly!
